What do we do?
ICEYE is building and operating its commercial constellation of small Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites with SAR data available to customers. Our satellites acquire images of Earth at any time – even when it’s cloudy or dark – providing commercial and government partners with unmatched persistent monitoring capabilities. Information derived from our SAR images helps customers make data-driven decisions to address time-critical challenges in various sectors, such as maritime, disaster management, insurance, and finance.
What are we looking for?
To support the company’s growth, we are looking for a Manager Strategic Capacity Management to join our global Product Management Team. You will report to the Head of Data Product in this role.
About the role?
The Manager Strategic Capacity Management will play a critical role in an exciting and rapidly-growing space business. The role is responsible for building and maintaining a dynamic, accurate, and trusted model of ICEYE satellite imaging supply and demand. At any given time and over any given region, ICEYE has a customer backlog for imaging capacity, prospective demand, and also constraints based on how customers seek to use ICEYE imaging satellites. The Manager, Strategic Capacity Management will build a model that integrates these factors to deliver consumable, prompt, high-quality information that enables robust decision-making. The model will drive insights for such topics as: imagery pricing; bulk allocation of satellite capacity; ICEYE constellation roadmap; and trades such as satellite orbits and satellite imaging modes. The candidate must have a demonstrated history of parameterizing a complex operational space to drive actionable and successful business decision-making. Additional candidate success criteria include modeling and programming skills; strong business acumen; problem-solving in ambiguous contexts; quantitative ease and speed; and an innate curiosity and attention to detail.
The ideal candidate brings a driving curiosity about the business and a strong quantitative orientation to problem-solving; is hypothesis-driven and knows how to avoid getting caught in details by quickly validating or discarding hypotheses before doing more detailed analyses. The ideal candidate is also a builder – creating good models, tools, and analytics where these don’t exist already. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the very heart of a strong and rapidly-growing new space business while also receiving domain guidance, access to industry thought leadership, and active career mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Capacity supply/demand model: Build a robust, scalable, and transparent model of ICEYE satellite imaging capacity supply and demand. Test the model against likely analytic questions to demonstrate performance and usability. Maintain the model, updating as assumptions and inputs improve and proactively identifying opportunities to improve model fidelity.
- Synthesis and communications: Distill business queries into analytic model inputs. Translate model outputs into business implications. Communicate these implications in writing and also verbally with leadership stakeholders. In these communications, maintain an appropriate balance of detail, assumptions, and conclusions to ensure quality decision-making.
- Business intelligence requirements: Articulate and drive business requirements with development partners to improve the quality and timeliness of model inputs. Maintain a roadmap of improvements for required business intelligence capabilities.
- KPI and metrics: Translate constellation supply and demand attributes into automated performance data that enable effective management of the satellite capacity business. Work with development partners to operationalize these KPIs and metrics.
- Documentation: Create and maintain model documentation for stakeholder understanding and business continuity.
Requirements
Must Have:
- 4-year degree in engineering, computer science, or business administration
- 4 years of experience building operational-financial models in a business setting. These models should connect business operations to financial outcomes and business implications and should have a proven history of facilitating successful business decision-making
- Strong quantitative orientation
- Strong detail orientation, with a reflex for self-checking and validating outcomes
- Operational/working knowledge of key analytic tools including but not limited to Python, Visual Basic, MatLab, SQL
- Operational/working knowledge of geospatial tools, e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc
- Ability to translate ambiguous business questions into discrete hypotheses and actionable validation methodologies
- Experience with the Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) framework
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Emphasis on the ability to synthesize complex operational topics for leadership decision-making
- Ability to engage and persuade across all tiers of the organization
- Proficiency with Microsoft and/or Google Office tools. Particular focus on Excel and PowerPoint and/or Google equivalents
Preferred:
- Experience with remote sensing operations at a remote sensing company
- Advanced degree: MBA or scientific/engineering/operations focus
- Experience building and maintaining business scorecards or dashboards
- Experience with satellite modeling tools such as SaVoir or STK
- Experience building models that integrate financial data with geospatial data
